Kids might be on summer vacation, but the learning never stops at #NerdNiteSeattle! Join us for a special collaboration with the University of Washington‘s I-LABS and hear about the latest research on closing the gender gap in STEM education.

Marley Jarvis and Amelia Bachleda: Tackling the gender gap in math, science, and technology starts with kids

Gender biases can affect how well you do on a math test, the way that teachers interact with children, and limit girls’ aspirations for careers in science and technology. However, closing the gender gap starts well before kids enter grade school. In this talk, we’ll chat about recent research on what we can do to combat gender bias in math, science, and technology fields, starting with young children.

Speaker Bios:
Marley Jarvis and Amelia Bachleda are Outreach and Education Specialists at the Institute for Learning & Brain Sciences (I-LABS) at the University of Washington. I-LABS is an interdisciplinary research center focused on early learning and the brain. Marley led a former life of chasing plankton as a marine scientist before turning full time to her fascination with how people learn throughout their lives at Pacific Science Center, and now I-LABS. Amelia loves to learn about how things work, particularly the brain, and works to make accessing that information easier for everyone.
